How Do I Use MapAoA?

Non-Member Service

Are you looking for a particular building but only have a small clue about that building? If that's your situation, here is how you find it.

1. Choose the city
The database of MapAoA.com is a unique combination of GIS technology powered by VERTICES and building information organized by AoA participants. The whole structure based on the city location, so you have to choose the city first in order to navigate and search within the MapAoA database.

2. Use the search engine
The search engine of MapAoA, developed by VERTICES, is a really powerful and useful engine. You can search by architect's name, building name, building type and even completed year by range. Just choose any one of these. If you are not sure of the architect's full name or building name, just enter the letter or consecutive letter(s) within the name you know for certain and the search engine will show the list of data that is similar to your request.
Once you find the building that you want to see from the list, simply click from the list.
The map will automatically zoom into the location of the building and show a GREEN marker plus a summary of information about the building. If you want to see more detailed information or more pictures, click 'View Detail' in the information summary.

Member service

Do you have any building information and pictures that you want to share with the MapAoA community? Here's how you do it.

1. If you are not a member yet, you must first register.
2. Log in
Once you have registered, any time you want to contribute any building information, location, image, or comment, log-in.
Choose your city of interest by selecting one of the cities indicated by the red points on the map. Or select a city from the list at the top.
3. Create a RED marker
Once you choose the city as a logged in member, you can navigate the map, zoom in, zoom out, even turn on the satellite image layered with the road map (Hybrid) and pinpoint the location of the building onto the map. Utilizing the Hybrid layer is recommended to find and confirm the desired location.
Once you are satisfied with your pinpoint, just click on the map and the RED marker will automatically be created. If you make a mistake, don't worry. An incorrectly placed RED marker will disappear unless you add any information to this location.
OK!! It's time to add information to your pinpointed location. Just click on the RED marker that you just created. A bubble will show basic information about the point, such as longitude and latitude.
Then click 'Add New', which opens a new pop-up window that includes information categories. Please don't leave the architect name and building name blank. These are the essential database fields, so something must be added for these items, or you will be unable to add the marker. If you don't know the architect and/or building name, just enter 'unknown' or 'don't know', and other MapAoA members may be able to complete that information for the MapAoA community. Once you've finished entering information about the building, click "Save", and the map will refresh automatically.
The pinpoint that you just added will have turned into a GREEN marker.
Click the GREEN marker you created, and you will see a bubble with the main information and image you added. If there are many markers, you may have trouble locating the one you just added. If this is the case, just use the Search utility to find your marker and view its information bubble. Once you can view the bubble, verify that the information is properly registered.

OK!! You did it!
